It would be an understatement to say that we all fell in love with the cutting-edge scores for Chernobyl and Joker, by Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, or with the Hitchcockian strings in Jung Jae-il’s Parasite. But, from Bobby Krlic’s bright compositions for Ari Aster’s slowburn horror masterpiece Midsommar to Jean-Michel Blais’s melancholic piano pieces for Xavier Dolan’s Matthias & Maxime to the protruding inclusion of The Five Satins’ ‘In the Still of the Night’ in Martin Scorsese’s latest epic The Irishman, a lot of cinematic moments, on the big screen as well as on TV, came to life through their musical dimension. Since the most wonderful time of the year is back again, we wanted to share the Score It Magazine team’s ten favourite soundtracks of 2019, and then each member of the team’s personal top ten.
